High School Dream Car Meets Deep Pockets!

September 21, 2020: Coming soon to the market is my friends Acura NSX that has been his dream car since a kid. While all of us ‘car guys’ have a poster car that we lusted after as a kid … there is a point when you hope to purchase it! Well, that time came a few years ago for a good friend … a pristine white NSX! Well, after a semi-restoration, tastefully modifications and plenty of time cleaning and rebuilding the engine … the market is about to be welcoming a fantastic example of JDM history! If you are reading this blog entry and thinking, hey … I want to add that to my garage / collection, shoot me a message or comment on here!

Yoo-Hoo ... James, you there?

August 7, 2019: What can I say? It has been a crazy 2019. Where the past few years I have been focused on social media, heck it was my job, in 2019 I took some time to focus on new avenues. So what have I been doing? Well travel has cut back and focus has been on my career. Photography hasn’t taken a back seat by any means. I have added the Canon Eos R to the camera bag and have been living my best full frame life! Cars and Coffee? Been there. Been there almost every weekend… so where have the photos been? I have been posted on the JVD Photo Facebook page.

So what content do I have to add? Expect to see some photos from Cars and Coffee as well as the past content from the Apollo 11 Anniversary. I also partnered up with my buddy Adam to put on the 3rd Annual Rev Up The Park car show this year. I will be sharing photos here first!

So stay tuned … that’s right, stay tuned you one person who is reading this blog entry - this entry is for you!

FOUND IT! A Six Year Search Complete - Dad's former '69 Boss 302

March 30, 2019: My portion of the story started over 6 years ago when my dad got me a copy of the Boss 302 Registry. I skimmed through to the listing showing his 1969 Boss 302 and the hunt was on!

I started searching online forums, talking to owners and fans of where this one particular Bright Yellow repainted in white Boss 302 might be. In the back of my head it was never expected to be found since it was over 30 years since he last saw it - likely several owners and possible accident history. None the less, I kept up the search (OCD much).

I came into contact with a gentleman who reportedly knew of the whereabouts of the car but would not give any real information. I received a few (terrible) photos of the car sitting in a field.

[Skip past the 5 years of random searches on google, Mustang forums, and eBay]

... Mid-March 2019 - Excited and unable to sleep for mine and Katie's trip to Florida for Spring Training, I began searching eBay. I scrolled past a white Boss 302 and for scrolled back to click. While clicking through the photos I thought "man if this had a little yellow it could be my dad's" - There it was a little bit of yellow paint around a molding. I clicked through to find the VIN tag and immediately noticed the familiar and correct last 6!

This brings us to today... after speaking to the owner we made a trip south to take a look. The photos don't do it justice for how beyond excited I was to share this moment with my dad. The real question is ... father/son project?

Weekend Flying - Niagara Falls, NY Trip

July 1, 2018:  Katie, Michael and Kara joined me in a trip to remember! We loaded up the plane and pointed the nose towards Western New York in search for a natural wonder ... Niagara Falls.  The smooth flight up at 5,000 feet provided for a chance to see the landscape changes, early morning fog and a great sunrise.

Special thanks to the controllers in both Canada and New York for the opportunity to hold over the Falls for several laps to photograph before heading into Niagara International.  Once on the ground we headed for the State Park for a fun filled day touring the Falls.

Take a look at the gallary and let me know what you think in the comments!

Breakfast Flight to Easton, MD

March 24, 2018: Katie and I flew to Easton, Maryland for breakfast at Sweet Buns Airport Cafe with fellow Leesburg pilots. In all we had about 12 pilots / friends and 6 airplanes in attendance for the Fly Out.

The flight path to Easton took us right over downtown Baltimore at 5,000ft giving us a nice view of the city and Port of Baltimore. For a nerd like me ... passing over the port gave me an opportunity to checkout the ships in port.

Our flight home took a little more of a southern routing at 6,000ft over BWI and eventually Gaithersburg -> Leesburg. Not as many photos for the flight home because the clear weather invited more and more aircraft to take to the skies. Katie learned about wake turbulence as Potomac Approach sent a Amazon Prime 767 a little close (not really) on departure from BWI.

As the weather continues to improve, I look forward to more and more flying!

1.20.18 - Katie's Cars and Coffee

January 20, 2018: The winter cold snap took a break in Washington DC for the weekend! The nicer weather brought out the cars that we have all be missing from Katie's Cars and Coffee. Among the favorites this weekend was a standoff between a Ferrari 430 and a brand new Lamborghini Huracán Performante. I had the pleasure of parking my Mustang GT with its color twin - a new Porsche 911.... white / red - a classic look!

A special guest made his appearance this weekend ... everyone's favorite - Ernie made a special visit.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

Air India Inaugural Service - IAD

July 7, 2017: On a cloudy and wet morning in Washington DC, Air India’s inaugural nonstop flight from Delhi to Dulles International Airport touched down and was greeted by tarmac water cannons, a traditional gate-side Indian prayer ceremony, a ribbon cutting and a dignitary luncheon. It is the first-ever nonstop flight between D.C. and the capital of the world’s second most populous country. The Air India service will operate nonstop flights between Dulles and Indira Gandhi International Airport three times a week.

Inaugural Airbus A321neo Service

May 31, 2017: Earlier this year Virgin America (VX) became the first operator to take delivery of the new Airbus A321neo (New Engine Option). N921VA arrived in Miami (MIA) in early May to begin its transfer into the airlines fleet. After several weeks of testing the aircraft made its way to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) for a test run leading up to the inaugural flight. From DC, it went to San Fransisco to be cycled into the schedule. On May 31st, the aircraft made its first revenue flight with passengers from San Fransisco (SFO) to Washington National. In addition to the paying passengers, several journalists made the round trip documenting the flight. Meanwhile in Washington, member of the media, federal government (FAA), and the airline / airport community were in attendance to see the aircraft touch down at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) for the first time.

It was an amazing opportunity to witness the historic flight with several friends and colleagues. Thank you to the local and corporate teams at Virgin America / Alaska Airlines who made this possible.

Katie's Cars and Coffee - December 3, 2016

Winter is coming! Despite the winter weather the cars still are rolling into Katie's on Saturday morning - waking up Great Falls, Virginia. The first 2017 Camaro ZL1 in the area made its appearance over the weekend - a black on Black coupe with the carbon appearance package. In addition to that a Ford GT, an early GT3RS and a new Fiat 124 Spider were highlights of the morning.

2016 Buick Club of America - 50th Anniversary Meet

The Buick Club of Americ's 50th Anniversary Meet hosted by Mr. Nichola Bulgari and his staff. The team rolled out the red carpet in Allentown, PA for the week long event. Buic owners and collectors had a rare oppertunity to view the entire US based collection of Mr. Bulgari as well as participate on several planned tours / outings to points of interest in the surrounding area.

On Saturday, July 30th over 600 Buick vehicles took to the showfield in the 50th Anniversary. For this historic event, Buick Motor Company and the Sloan Museu brought some jewels from their collections. The Sloan Museum brought the 1910 Buick Bug. Meanwhile, Buick / GM stunned the crowd, brought the 1938 Buick Y-Job prototype and  two modern day prototypes of their own, the Buick Avenir sedan and Avista.

Challenger 601-3R Marketing Shoot

This past weekend's hot weather was no match for my shutter finger. With a clear blue sky as a back drop I began photographing the stunning, matterhorn white Challenger 601-3R. With many moves of a latter, doors open, doors closed, different angles, inside and outside the sales shoot was brought to a close when I powered off the lights, turned off the GPU and closed up the cabin door. As soon as the listing is complete, I will update this blog entry to include a link to the sales literature.

Memorial Weekend - Katies Cars and Coffee

Memorial weekend started off with a crowded morning at Katie's Coffee House in Great Falls. A combination of holiday visitors and amazing weather brought together a great showing for Cars and Coffee. Lets see what tomorrow's Dulles Corner C&C has to hold.

Flashgun Painting Technique: Practice

The learning process is never through in photography; I am always in search of new and exciting ways to add character to my photos. I have always enjoyed taking night photos because of the way the subject pops against a dark, secluded backdrop. Below is an image showing the new process I have taken to add flare to the image. By using a flash, I am able to fill the image with appropriate lighting in areas to bring the subject to life.

Deutsche Marque Concours d'Elegance: May 15, 2016

The Deutsche Marque Concours d'Elegance is an automotive party featuring fine German collector and modern cars arrayed around Nottaway Park in Vienna, Virginia. Car owners, and those who adore their cars, gather for a day of mutual admiration and relaxed camaraderie while guest judges review and critique the participants’ cars. This year represented the 33rd time that the National Capital Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA), the Greater Washington Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (MBCA), and the Potomac Region of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) all gathered for this terrific show.
